Does God Matter To A Nation?

“It is impossible to account for the creation of the universe, without the agency of a Supreme Being”–George Washington.

“I hold the precepts of Jesus as delivered by Himself, to be the most pure, benevolent, and sublime which have ever been preached to man”–Thomas Jefferson.

“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in number, wealth and powers as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God! Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God who made us”–Abraham Lincoln.

“But all of us–at home, at war, wherever we may be–are within the reach of God’s love and power. We all can pray. We all should pray. We should ask the fulfillment of God’s will. We should ask for courage, wisdom, for the quietness of soul which comes alone to them who place their lives in His hands”–Harry S. Truman.

“No greater thing could come to our land today than a revival of the spirit of faith–a revival that would sweep through the homes of the nation and stir the hearts of men and women of all faiths to a reassertion of their belief in God and their dedication to His will for themselves and for their world. I doubt if there is any problem–social, political, or economic–that would not melt away before the first of such spiritual revival”–Franklin D. Roosevelt.

  1. Here’s one more quote from perhaps the greatest American:

“I do not think I could myself, be brought to support a man for office, whom I knew to be an open enemy of, and scoffer at, religion. Leaving the higher matter of eternal consequences, between him and his Maker, I still do not think any man has the right thus to insult the feelings, and injure the morals, or the community in which he may live. If, then, I was guilty of such conduct, I should blame no man who should condemn me for it; but I do blame those, whoever they may be, who falsely put such a charge in circulation against me.”
    A. Lincoln
    July 31, 1846

  2. “And even when we are trying to do the right thing, we know that much of our time will be spent groping through the darkness, so often unable to discern God’s heavenly plans… May God bless and keep those we’ve lost in His heavenly place. May He grace those we still have with His holy comfort. And may He bless and watch over this community and the United States of America.”
