You Can’t Do Without This

We simply must have an adequate view of God.

Without knowing God, we will miss the essence of the Christian faith.

What happens when you experience God? What difference does it make in a person’s life?

The best answer to that question might be found in the experience of Isaiah the Prophet.

While in the temple for worship, Isaiah received a vision of God. As he said: “I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were Seraphim . . . . And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory’ “(Isaiah 6:1-3).

Meeting God changes your life. This is how it changed Isaiah’s life.

First, he recognized the majesty of God. God is the Lord of the temple, the One who fills the whole earth with His glory. He is not a localized god, but rather the God of gods.

Second, Isaiah recognized the holiness of God. Isaiah coined the phrase “the holy one of Israel” to describe who God is. God is perfect moral purity. The New Testament writers picked up on the revelation given to Isaiah by describing God as light in whom is no darkness.

Third, the prophet recognized his own sinfulness as well as the sinfulness of all around him. We cannot encounter the reality of God without seeing the darkness of our sin.

Fourth, the prophet experienced God’s forgiveness and cleansing.

Finally, having experienced God, Isaiah wanted to serve God. His desires changed as he encountered the greatness and majesty of God.

This has been my own experience. When we meet God, our lives are changed. What we “want” and what matters to us becomes different.

I believe asking God to reveal Himself to you is a “game changer.” Having met God changes how we act and how we look at life.

I can’t think of anything more important than your asking God to make Himself real to you.

I hope you will do so today.
