Jesus taught us prominently about prayer. He gave us the model prayer (also called the Lord’s Prayer) and reminded us of the need to forgive when we pray.
Paul prayed for the churches and exhorted believers to pray in all things and to “pray without ceasing.” He knew we needed to be connected to our Heavenly Father and to take all our needs to Him. He told us to “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving” to let our “requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6).
Jesus taught us to pray in His name. “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it” (John 14: 13-14, NASB).
What can we learn about praying in Jesus name?
First, by these words Jesus taught us the importance of prayer. We should pray and we can pray in His name to the Father.
We have the permission of the Son to petition the Father and to do so in His name and with His authority.
What can be more significant than that?
Second, by teaching us to pray in His name, Jesus equips us for the work we are called to do.
Jesus wants us to bear much fruit. He has a work for us to do, and He equips us to do this work.
How do we love others, reach the lost, and live by faith? We go to the Father in the name of Jesus asking for His power. Jesus gives us exactly what we need by allowing us to go to the Father in His name.
“You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you” (John 15:16, NASB).
We have not been left without power. We may live and pray in Jesus name.
May we do so more and more as we petition the Father to equip us to do His work.

Thank you Dr. Bailey for reminding us again, the importance of praying by the example given, and praying often, to have a close and continuing relationship with God the Father and Jesus our Lord and Savior,

Dr. Bailey, Thank you for reminding me of the fact that we do pray in Jesus name. As you are aware sometimes Monday mornings are hard in the life of a pastor. Always being on call and everyone expecting you to have an answer for everything under the sun. Thank you so much for reminding me that God was the one who chose me and appointed me to bear fruit. These are good words for Monday mornings.
