The Love the World Has Never Known

“You can’t keep people away from where they are loved.”

I have made that statement for years as I referred to the church. I believe the statement with all my heart.

I now know it doesn’t just refer to the church. It also has to do with your relationships. As your home becomes more and more a place where your spouse and your children are loved and appreciated, it will also become more of a place of refuge and joy for the entire family.

Love is the lubricant that brings joy and hope to our lives.

Love as described in the Bible is not simply an affection but rather “a sober kind of love that places high value on a person and actively seeks that person’s benefit” (Gordon Fee).

This kind of love is not natural to man; it comes from God Himself. It is the love that sent Christ to the cross on our behalf. It is the love that allowed Christ to go to the cross when we did not deserve anything. “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:8). In the midst of our extreme rebellion, God allowed His Son to become the sacrifice for our sin. We were shaking our fist in God’s face while He was providing for our deliverance.

That’s the love the world has never known and only knows now because of God.

When you place high value on a person and actively seek his or her benefit, it’s hard to keep them away. And, it will change your life.

Love changes the one who gives it and the one who receives it.

The blessing that goes to the one giving love is why “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Loving other people in the way of God will really change your life. It will bless you and those around you.

It is why “Love one another” is the greatest commandment.

Practice God’s love and you will be blessed in this life and in the life to come.
