If You Gave Your Life Wholly to Christ, What Would Happen?

If you gave your life to Christ, what would happen?

Yesterday, I preached from Isaiah 30. This passage of Scripture speaks about living in relationship with God.

When you live in relationship with God, this is what you can expect.

First, you can expect to receive the direction and guidance of God.

This is exactly what I’ve experienced in my life following after Christ. One of my life verses is Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

God does give direction. He wants us to live our lives in relationship with him. He wants to bless us, direct us, and show us His way.

Second, you can expect quietness and rest.

When many people think of living life in Christ, they think of frenetic activity. They assume they will be consumed with activities in church and in life. Amazingly, God promises rest and quietness. He wants us to trust Him and experience the peace that comes from knowing Him. In another passage of Scripture Isaiah the prophet promised: “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3).

To live in God is to live in peace and rest.

Third, to live in God is to experience grace, mercy, justice, and kindness. Above all else God treats us with mercy and goodness. I love to read the last words of Psalm 23: “Surely goodness and mercy will pursue you all the days of your life.” God is pictured as the one who is chasing after us with the intent of bestowing His love and His mercy upon us.

To live in Christ is to experience abundant joy, peace, and hope.

  1. Thank you Dr Bailey, your scripture yesterday in your serman as you stated in your Blog for today , are my thoughts as I go about my work through the day . They give me comfort and peace as I go to sleep at night. I appreciate your message each day, Bonnie

  2. Excellent as always.
My question and answer to those who believe and suffer from illness, loss, terror from being killed or dieing/cruel treatment at the hands of craze/devil directed people follows. We know this is just a brief journey on earth to one day be with God (Trinnity) and will be loving good and wonderful. All but one apostle died cruel deaths for our Lord, so should we expect everything to be wonderful down here. Obviously not but should still be able to Keep on Singing His Praise because we know the end game, yes. God is always with us and will be for ever if we truly believe in Him and follow his way with the help of His Spirit in us.

  3. Waylon thank you so much for this post.
“Surely goodness and mercy will pursue you all the days of your life.” I too have loved to read these words for a very long time!
As our family moves through much difficulty I can attest to the truth in your statement, “To live in God is to live in peace and rest.”

  4. I had to chuckle yesterday hearing your sermon, because it is a question I ask myself almost everyday. “What if I were to completely sell out and commit myself wholly to Christ, in faith and obedience every second of every day.”
