A Love Worth Keeping

[God’s love is] “a sober kind of love that places high value on a person and actively seeks that person’s benefit”–Gordon Fee.

“Love changes the one who gives it and the one who receives it”–Waylon Bailey.

“God often uses marriage as a metaphor for his relationship with his people (see the Book of Hosea; Ephesians 5:32; Revelation 19:7-10). Here’s one reason: a wedding does not make a marriage. Just because a couple pledged their lives to each other does not guarantee they will keep that pledge. Yesterday’s promise must be today’s commitment. So it is with our faith. Far too many Christians think they must be right with God because they were baptized as infants or children, or because they had an encounter with God at youth camp, or because they went to church on Sunday. That’s all good, but past obedience is no substitute for present obedience. God wants a present-tense communion with his children. He reveals his perfect will moment by moment, and calls us to the same kind of worship and obedience”–Jim Denison.

“. . . we need to remember that the essence of loving is giving. ‘God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son . . . .’ ‘The Son of God . . . loved me and gave himself for me.’ Moreover, the degree of love is measured partly by the worthiness or unworthiness of the beneficiary. The more the gift costs the giver, and the less the recipient deserves it, the greater the love is seen to be. Measured by these standards, God’s love in Christ is absolutely unique. For in sending his Son to die for sinners, he was giving everything, his very self, to those who deserved nothing from him except judgment”–John Stott.

“You can’t keep people away from a place where they are loved”–Waylon Bailey.

  1. These were so good!! “God is love” sounds so simple yet it’s a picture of Calvary. There’s no love without the Cross. Thankful for His sacrificial love for me- and the world. I want to have that kind of love for this world. I’m thankful for the truth shared in your blog, Waylon

  2. Thanks a lot for providing idnlviduais with remarkably terrific opportunity to read in detail from this web site. It really is so pleasant plus packed with amusement for me personally and my office fellow workers to visit your website no less than thrice a week to find out the new tips you have got. Of course, I’m just actually contented for the great tricks served by you. Some 3 areas in this posting are essentially the most effective I’ve ever had.
