A Declaration of Revival

Seventy-three years ago yesterday, in response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor,  the United States of America declared war on Japan.

In addition to the almost 4,000 sailors, soldiers, and civilians killed at Pearl Harbor, the war brought the death of over 400,000 Americans in the two theater war. Millions of people world wide, mostly civilians, died in WWII.

Yesterday, seventy-three years later, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, “a declaration of revival” was declared for our nation from the capitol of our state. It was in response to America’s spiritual decline.

Pastors, religious leaders, and concerned lay people met to map a strategy to join together in praying for spiritual awakening in our nation.

The group planned for people from Louisiana and others from around the nation to join together at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on the campus of Louisiana State University for a day dedicated to revival.

We will meet January 24, 2015, for “The Response: A Call for Repentance for a Nation in Crisis.” Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will host the event.

This meeting is for Christians. It is not about lost people; it is about saved people who need to respond to the crisis in our nation by turning from our sinful ways and turning to God.

The meeting is not political; it is spiritual. Christians who are Democrats, Republicans, and Independents will join together to confess our sin, seek the face of God, and ask for His blessings on our nation.

Isn’t it time to declare revival?

Two things struck me about yesterday.

First, we met on the anniversary of the declaration of war so long ago.

Second, I thought about Pete Maravich. I met Pete after he came to Christ. I was privileged to get to know him, not as a basketball player but as a follower of Christ.

How appropriate to have this time of prayer and repentance in the place named after him. He would have been proud.

Would you join me–both those of you in Louisiana and those in the rest of the nation and the world–in prayer for revival? I am going to dedicate January 4-24, 2015, as a time for fasting and prayer for our nation. I would like for you to join me.

We can make a difference if we do as God said and humble ourselves and pray (2 Chronicles 7:14).
