It’s Christmas!

It’s Christmas! Are you busy yet?

Sometimes people ask me if I’m ready for Christmas. You know what they mean. They aren’t asking if you are happy about Christmas being here. They want to know if you’ve gotten everything done.

I’m very fortunate that Martha makes most of our Christmas happen. Without her, we wouldn’t have treats to eat or presents under the tree.

Even then, I find Christmas very busy.

It’s easy to get lost in the busyness of Christmas and miss the real gift God gave to His people.

Let me ask you to make three big decisions this Christmas.

First, determine to learn who Christ really is.

Several years ago I made a life-altering decision. I determined to get to know God–not just about God but to really know Him. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

If you make this decision, you can be assured it will happen. “Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:8).

Second, make the decision to find what matters to God and do it.

This second decision really proceeds from the first. If you get to know God, you will learn what pleases and displeases Him. When God has shown you what matters, act on it quickly. Delayed obedience is not obedience; partial obedience is disobedience as well.

Third, make the decision to truly worship God. One of my favorite lines of Christmas is “O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.”

How can you worship in the busyness of the season? Attend the worship services of your church, especially a Christmas day or Christmas eve service. These are truly special. Sit near the front and get fully engaged in the worship. Look for God in the hymns, Scripture, and message. Don’t get caught up in who’s there or who isn’t. Only worry whether or not God is present.

Read Matthew 1-2 and Luke 1-2. Ask God to show you the significance of each section.

Pray and ask God to make Himself known to you this Christmas.

These are God-honoring decisions that will make this Christmas your most special ever.

It’s really easy to have Christmas and miss Christ. Don’t let that happen to you.
