Look Doc! Baby God!

One of my favorite pictures isn’t really a picture at all. It’s a drawing by Joe McKeever.

Joe drew a picture of Joseph, Mary, and the baby lying in a manger. My grandson Chase and I are in the picture as well. While Mary and Joseph have a worshipful pose, Chase is filled with wonder and amazement–a fairly good representation of him every day.

Joe drew me with a proud look because my grandson had gotten the truth of what happened.

I’m not sure how old Chase was when he said what he did. I think about three years old.

This is what he said: “Look, Doc! Baby God! (Doc is his name for me).

I’m still amazed at what he said. And, I’m proud of his parents for giving him such a background to think about the baby in the manger in that way.

What do we know about this baby?

He is God’s Son, but His title the Son of God has more to do with who He is. He is the second person of the Holy Trinity. He is God the Son.

He is the Living Word. “In beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him , and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:1-3).

He is the Creator, and He shows us who God is. “He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities–all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:15-17).

He is God in the flesh, yes Baby God. “For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell. . .” (Colossians 1:19).

He is the Savior of the World.  “. . . and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross” (Colossians 1:20).

He deserved the worship of wise men and shepherds in Bethlehem and Anna and Simeon in the temple. He still deserves our worship and obedience.

He is God in the flesh–our Immanuel. God with us. Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

“O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.”
