A Sure Way to Lose Weight

It’s the new year, right? We know what everyone wants.

The fitness business and everyone else understands what Americans want in the new year.

Everyone wants to lose weight.

I have a sure-fire way for you to lose weight. This might be the easiest way ever.

Here’s the answer: Simply watch what you drink.

Most people simply drink themselves to obesity. Think about what you drink. Alcoholic beverages, milk, sweet tea (a southern staple), sports drinks, energy drinks, and soft drinks all have calories that have little or nothing to do with nutrition.

Even if you don’t need to lose weight, you might want to consider what you drink. Is it adding nutrition or creating issues for your health?

Even diet drinks without calories put a sweet taste in your mouth that makes you crave more sugar. Recent studies have shown that sugar has an addictive factor higher than cocaine.

Now, this isn’t a health blog (I don’t know much about nutrition and health), and this blog certainly isn’t a part of the Nanny State trying to control everything you do.

But this blog is about our relationship with God. Yesterday, I read and studied Psalm 8 again. The heart of the Psalm concerns God’s creation and the place of human beings in His plan.

Though we see ourselves as little, insignificant, and unimportant (the view of the world without God), we are in fact the crown of God’s creation (Psalm 8:3-8). We have been given dominion over the fish of the sea and the fowl of the air. Psalm 8 rightly has been called “Genesis 1 set to music” (Robert Law).

God has given to humans a stewardship responsibility. A steward takes care of another’s property.

We have a stewardship responsibility for God’s creation and for our bodies. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19).

Why not use the motivation of a new year to consider what you eat and drink and to make sure you are taking care of God’s great gift to you?

And, make sure whatever you eat or drink, speak or think is for the glory of God. “Honor God with your body.”
