Is There Life Before Death?

Years ago someone told me that most people are more concerned with life before death then life after death.

We are simply consumed with the present. Life becomes hard and people are trying to make it day by day.

The poet William Wordsworth eloquently described how we are so involved in what’s happening right now. “The world is too much with us, late and soon, Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers . . .”

I certainly understand how people want to know if there’s life before death. After all, this is the life we are living right now. Years ago, Peggy Lee sang a song with the haunting question, “Is That All There Is?”.

It was a very popular song because people really want to know if there’s something more.

I have really good news.

Jesus came to give us life before death and life after death. He came to give us eternal life, a phrase that describes quality as well as quantity of life. It describes life now and life forever.

Eternal life describes a rich, meaningful, permanent life with God who loves and cares for us. Recently I’ve been amazed and consumed by this concept. Jesus told us that he came that we might have life and have it to the full (John 10:10).

Isn’t that what you want? Is there anyone who doesn’t want to have a rich, meaningful, abundant life? This is exactly what Jesus came to give.

You can have fellowship with God the father who gives us life which is rich and meaningful – and it can come before you die.

This kind of life comes by faith in the Son of God. He came to reveal God and give you life–everlasting life.

Ask for it, and He will give it. Tell God you want fellowship with Him, that you want to live in His presence. God desires to grant you what you so desperately want. After all, he died to give you eternal life – life now and life with Him forever.

  1. I love this reminder of
Truth!!! So encouraging. Thank you! This is my prayer today for myself, my family, my church, and DNow!

  2. One of my favorite promises of our Lord is “I come that [you] may have life, and have it more abundantly.” I think it’s helpful to evaluate our walk with the Lord by how much peace, joy, and abundant life we are experiencing. Of course we understand that these are by-products of our love for people–His love in our hearts for all people. We experience the fulfullment of His promises in proportion to our obedience to His command to “love one another as I have loved you.”
Thanks again Waylon for keeping us stimulated in our walk with Jesus.
