LIving in Peace and Joy

I was profoundly touched this week as I had the opportunity to pray with a single mom and her children. They moved into a new residence and wanted me to come by and pray with them as they began this new chapter in their lives.

It was moving and instructive for me. That morning I prayed that God would give me the right words to say to this young family.

During the day I remembered the words of Joshua, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). I also remembered the words of the psalm: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1).

The part that touched me the most was thinking about what we ought to ask God to do. This is how we determined to pray: we would ask God for peace, joy, and love for this house. We also determined to ask God for safety for the children and a sense of God’s peace and their own joy and happiness as they live in this place.

Is that what you want for your home? Don’t we all want to come home to joy, peace, and love? Don’t we all want our homes to be a haven? And, don’t we want our homes to be just a little bit of heaven on earth?

Those are the blessings God promises his people. Paul told us that the fruit of the Holy Spirit is “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23).

Because of God’s marvelous blessings we can access those wonderful joys in our lives. God came to give us eternal life – life now with quality as well as quantity.

God gave us His Son to give us a life that is rich, meaningful, and permanent.

I thank God that he sent His Son so we might have life that is abundant and free.

Let us determine to live in the light of these wonderful blessings. Let us interact with other people from that vast resource of the fullness of God’s blessings – – from His riches in glory.

  1. Yes, we all want love and peace. God is so good. Had a wonderful day. Jesse Hoyer, came to LSB today, and spoke to our WMU. It was like home week for me. Took her out for lunch afterwards and caught up on so many of our FBC friends. Hello, and love to all, still miss you all.
