Our Need for a New Awakening

“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, this many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!”–Abraham Lincoln, proclaiming “a day of national humiliation, fasting and prayer,” April 30, 1863.

“The central message of the Bible is the mercy of God, and whoever comes to Him in penitence and sincerity will in no wise be cast out”–Herbert Lockyer.

“Revival is a people saturated with God”–Brian Edwards.

“Prayer is the most powerful resource we have in this life . . . . It unleashes the spiritual dynamite that obliterates darkness and despair”–Franklin Graham.

“A Great Awakening is the result of a prolonged, saturation of a community of believers with the Presence of God. His Presence does not come because the people deserve His grace, but because they are in need of His mercy”–Gary Miller.

  1. It is painful to see our nation drawn away from God by man’s self importance. This was a great piece Waylon…. Thanks

  2. Thanks , we need to remind ourselves daily how insignificant we are, apart from the Ancient Glorious Almighty who wants to be drawn to his creation who truly trust and believe that -He Is,- the All, -the I Am.

  3. Some of us get it and most do not I am afraid. I believe we are already under judgment and it can only get stronger if we refuse to repent before our Lord God.
