What Sin Does To Us

“We like to pretend God doesn’t see our sins. . . . The demons give us our desires, then help us hide them. We think since we haven’t been caught yet, we must have made a clean getaway. The demons are very patient. When our accumulated sins cause the greatest devastation–to us, our loved ones and our testimony for Christ–the demons will suddenly betray us and expose it all. We won’t be able to defend ourselves, because the accusations of the demons will be right”–John Kincaid.

“All that we call human history . . . is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy”–C.S. Lewis.

“We are so accustomed to anger, critical attitudes, lying, and coarse humor among believers that we are no longer upset or convicted about these sins. We would be shocked to see a church member commit some sensual sin, but we will watch him lose his temper in a business meeting and call it ‘righteous indignation’ “–Warren Wiersbe.

“The ‘win at all costs’ pressure so dominant in our culture leaves wrecked bodies and reputations in its wake. . . .We’re all tempted, whether others know it or not. Lustful thoughts, deceptive statements and actions, anything that misrepresents the truth and violates God’s word–it’s all a form of cheating. In the moment, we think that the reward of cheating will outweigh its costs. But whether we get caught or not, we’re wrong”–Jim Denison.
