Ready to be Back Home

Martha and I have enjoyed our time away immensely, and we are looking forward to being back with you next weekend.

We have used the time to rest, think, pray, and read. We have also used the time to be with family and simply to chill. We have had time to spend with God, contemplating how we should live and where we go as a church and as the people of God.

Martha is looking forward to leading the women of the community in Bible Study. She has chosen the very relevant topic of “Unraveled–Making It When My World Seems To Be Falling Apart.” The first session is Wednesday, September 9. She will teach by means of video on Sunday nights as well, teaching her series on “Imperfect People” taken from 1-2 Samuel. This will be especially helpful for those women who work on Wednesdays.

She will be teaching the books of Jonah, Daniel, and Esther. Each of these people had to face a world that seemed to be unraveling quickly. In the midst of those times, God had a powerful word to His people.

I will be teaching Proverbs for the Tuesday Men’s Breakfast which begins Tuesday, August 3, and the Gospel of Luke for my line by line study on Wednesday nights.

Next weekend I will be preaching about where God has been showing me the church should go in the future. The title of the sermon is “More,” and the Scripture text is Philippians 2.

Beginning the second week in August, I will preach a series entitled “Gameday.” We’re going to look at individual playmakers who made a difference in their world. Playmakers is a term used to describe the person on a football team who makes the plays that determine the course of the game. We’re going to see that God is ready for us to be playmakers in our world.

I am thankful for God’s call on my life, and I am thankful to get to serve God through First Baptist Church, Covington.
