What’s On Your Bucket List?

What’s on your bucket list?

Long before the phrase “bucket list” was popularized, most of us had a bucket list, those things we want to see or do or accomplish before we “kick the bucket.”

So, what’s on your bucket list?

Let me give you some examples of the way we as followers of Christ should be thinking.

First, we need to have a spiritual growth bucket list. We need to be thinking about sanctification.

Sanctification is the process by which we grow into conformity to Christ. Sanctification is a must. It is not an option. It is not what we can choose or not choose.

Unfortunately, we often think that many things in the life of a Christ follower are optional. How many times have you heard someone say they didn’t choose to witness, tithe, or study the Bible? We act as if those are optional parts of being a Christian.

Isn’t it time that you started a bucket list about your own growth in Christ?

Why not spend some quiet time with God letting him impress you with what you need to put on your sanctification bucket list?

Second, we need a kindness bucket list. How much have you thought lately about growing in kindness?

Sometimes we think people naturally become kinder with age. Apparently, that’s not true. We tend to be in old age whatever we have been in earlier years.

Kindness, compassion, and tender heartedness come when we deliberately determine to grow in God-likeness. What is God like? He is good, kind, and compassionate. We need to place God-like characteristics on our kindness bucket list.

By the way, I see nothing wrong with having a places to visit and things to do kind of bucket list. I certainly look for new things to learn and new, exciting things to do. But that kind of bucket list should fall far behind our desire to growth spiritually and our desire to become more like God.

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”
