Gameday is Coming!

This weekend begins a new sermon series for our church.

It’s called Gameday and it looks at people who make a difference, people who are real playmakers.

Like many of you I am ready for football season. July gets really long, but August reminds us football is near. The Saints are in training camp and college football teams started fall practice this week.

Every team is looking for “playmakers,” people who can turn a game by their amazing abilities. Playmakers often are fast or they have extraordinary gifts or they simply have “football IQ.” They take the team and the game on their shoulders.

The sermon series “Gameday” is about people. It’s people who make the plays that win the game.

As we go through this series we are going to look at people. We will look at their gifts and abilities but particularly their willingness to be used of God in trying times.

We are going to begin the series today by looking at a woman named Lydia (Acts 16:11-15). Lydia was a business woman in the city of Philippi in Greece. When she trusted the Lord she used her acumen for the Lord and made a playmaking difference in the city of Philippi. The church met in her house and she became the catalyst for many other people to know God.

Next week we will look at Cornelius (Acts 10) and how he came to know God and use his gifts for God.

There is a common denominator of all the people we will see in this series–they all made a difference. Though living in different times and in different circumstances, they accomplished remarkable things by using themselves for God.

Please begin to look for ways to make a difference for God.
