Some things simply bless your life.
Here are three which have blessed my life in recent years.
Of course, God’s blessings and mercies are new every morning. He is the father of lights and the giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). Therefore, His blessings are myriad in nature. I thank God for such blessings.
Even understanding that God gives many blessings, these three have touched me tremendously.
First, practicing the presence of God. In the 1600s, brother Lawrence practiced God’s presence in every part of his life. This is a totally biblical practice. Jesus told us he would be in us and we in him. The Holy Spirit is present with us now. He will never leave nor forsake us.
To practice the presence of God means I acknowledge Him in every part of my life. When I rise in the morning, I sit down with God to have a cup of coffee. It has blessed my life to acknowledge God’s presence and to know that wherever I am – – in front of the computer, in the automobile, or working quietly in my office – – He is present with me.
Second, reading Scripture and meditating on it. I read through the Bible every year, and I usually read through the New Testament two times.
It’s not a burden, and I don’t read it to see how far I can get in the shortest time possible.
I read it to hear from God. I spend time thinking about His Word. I want to know what matters to Him so that I can pray about what He wants.
I encourage you to find a reading plan (I would be glad to suggest one if you leave a comment) and begin the process of reading God’s Word for the purpose of meeting God in Scripture. This has blessed my life.
Third, letting God examine my heart. “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts” (Psalm 139:23).
This, frankly, is rather difficult. It’s difficult because you have to be willing to do what God wants to do in your heart.
To let God examine your heart means you ask Him what He wants to change about you. This habit calls for repentance. Repentance is not easy, but it is sweet.
These are blessings in my life. They are all a gift from God. They are free to every believer.
Experience these and be blessed.
