You Can Have Joy

Sep.2“O what a happy soul am I, Although I cannot see I am resolved that in this world contented I will be; How many blessings I enjoy that other people don’t, to weep and sigh because I’m blind, I cannot and I won’t”–songwriter Fanny Crosby at age 8.

“The joy that Jesus provides us is His joy. It lacks nothing, it has no imperfection. His joy is not almost joy. It is everything joy was ever intended to be”–John Kincaid.

“When you study the life and ministry of Jesus carefully, you will discover a life filled with joy. His joy was His absolute surrender and self-sacrifice to His Father–the joy of doing that which the Father sent Him to do–‘who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross . . .’ (Hebrews 12:2) . . . . It is the will of our Lord that the joy of Jesus might be constantly a part of our lives. ‘These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full’ (John 15:11)–Ron Herrod.

“Joy is the gigantic secret of the Christian”–G.K. Chesterton.

“Christian joy is unlike worldly pleasure; our joy is available when we feel discouraged–even when we are dying. . . . Our joy is Christ’s joy. It is the life of the Lord Jesus Christ being lived out through each believer, so that over time, we become more like Him. You find fleeting pleasure in other places. But Christ is the only source of true joy”–John Kincaid.

“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever”–Psalm 16:11.

“You love [Christ] even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him, you trust him, and even now you are happy with a glorious, inexpressible joy”–1 Peter 1:8.

  1. Dear Dr. Bailey, My sister, Beth Crow, sends me your column every day*, and
each one is very uplifting and inspiring. Thank you especially for the one that we
read today on JOY. We Core kids had parents that were consistently filled
with joy, and we either inherited it, or the examples that they set were conta-
gious. Having Jesus in our hearts is probably the real reason that we are up-
beat most of the time, and can’t wipe the smiles from our faces. : )

    * I tried to subscribe, but no message was forthcoming. When I tried again
to submit my e-mail address (marymcabell@gmail.com), the message said
that I was already subscribed. . . Go figure! In Father’s firm grip, Mary
