Pursuing Godliness

“Most middle-class Americans tend to worship their work, to work at their play, and to play at their worship”–Gordon Dahl.

“If it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good & evil passes not through states, nor between classes, not even between political parties either–but right through every human heart”–Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

“Thou must be emptied of that wherewith thou art full, that thou mayest be filled with that whereof thou art empty”–Augustine.

“A life is either all spiritual or not spiritual at all. No man can serve two masters. Your life is shaped by the end you live for. You are made in the image of what you desire”–Thomas Merton.

“God loves each one of us as if there were only one of us”–Augustine.

“Human words cannot change human hearts. You and I can do nothing eternal, spiritual, or God glorifying in our natural capacity. Only the Lord can draw people to the Lord. Only he can save souls and change lives. This he does through us, but only when he can work through us. Self-sufficiency is the spiritual cancer of our age. When we admit our need of God and submit to his Spirit, he uses us to advance his kingdom and change our world”–Jim Denison.

“The church has many organizers, but few agonizers; many who pay, but few who pray; many resters, but few wrestlers; many who are enterprising, but few who are interceding. People who are not praying are playing”–Leonard Ravernhill.

  1. This is such an important lesson to learn. That we are so insufficient for any Godly work but to be used by Him through prayer and submission to His will can we go out in His love. Thank you Waylon for always reminding us of His perfect will in our lives.
