Four Steps for Living in the Light

We know what Jesus told us to do.  We are the salt of the earth, and we are the light of the world. Therefore, we are called upon to let our light shine before others. This will allow them  to see our good works and glorify the Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

Notice the progression here.

First, we let the light within us (which comes from the Father, the father of lights) shine brightly in every aspect of our lives. Second, others will see the joy and radiance of our lives as well as the goodness and kindness of our deeds. Third, having seen our good works people will glorify the Father in heaven.

It’s a sequence of events that results in God receiving praise, honor, and glory.

What are the steps for getting this done?

First, we must make the basic commitment to receive Christ and allow Him to be the guiding force in our lives. While we may do good things from time to time, no one can be righteous apart from the work of God. Jesus called His disciples to let their light shine because He knew who powered that light.

Therefore, we must be connected to the source of our power. That comes by submitting our lives fully to God.

Second, we must daily die to self so that we may live for Christ. This process demands that we spend time alone with God in meditation, prayer, and Scripture. We must seek to be filled with God’s Spirit, and we must submit to Him daily.

This is not a simple task nor should it be taken lightly. It is one of the keys of living for Christ and letting our light shine before others.

Third, we must accept our sins and failings, confess them to the Father, and turn in repentance to God. That process will begin substantive change in our lives.

This, too, is necessary for letting our light shine.

Fourth, we must seek positive ways to let our light shine.

Here are some questions which will help you with this part of the process. Who will I see today? What will be difficult about that interaction? What can I do differently that will show the light of Christ in my life?

God will supply everything you need to let your light shine. We simply must access that power by deliberately submitting to Him and allowing Him to work through us

When we do these things we will bless the people around us and glorify the Father who is in heaven.
