It’s Time for our Government to Protect It’s Citizens

I think the American people now see that Jihad is coming to America. Of course it’s been here for a while, but those in authority and those in popular media have refused to acknowledge the truth.

The truth is that radical Islam has attacked the Middle East, Africa, and Europe with the kind of attacks as in Paris. They have promised us that America is next.

What should government do to protect its citizens? When I ask that question I frankly don’t think about my wife and me, but I think about my four grandchildren. The leadership of our nation has the responsibility to protect my grandchildren.

Last month I preached from Romans 13. Romans 13 describes our responsibility to government. Unless there is a law that breaks the law of God, we Christians have a responsibility to fully and ungrudgingly follow the law. That’s what I called my congregation to do. We must pay taxes (and not complain about it) because the Bible calls us to do so.

That is our responsibility to our government.

The same passage of Scripture describes government’s responsibility to God and to its citizens.

“The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do wrong” (Romans 13:4).

Our leaders have been charged with the responsibility of bearing the sword to protect its people. To not do so is to disobey God.

Every person in authority, including the president of the United States, rules under God’s authority. We always need presidents who recognize the authority of God. When a president or governor does not recognize God’s authority, America cannot function.

Right now, America seems to be very dysfunctional.

Would you join with me in praying for those in authority in America to acknowledge God, to recognize His authority, and to use that authority to protect my grandchildren and yours?

  1. Well said Waylon. I’ve known for a long time that this country was extremely vulnerable to attacks. I will never forget Ergun Caner who preached at our church back in 2001 (?). He opened my eyes to Islam. It’s just a matter of time before another horrible attack on America. I commend the numerous governors for speaking up and rejecting Syrian refugees. We need to close the borders and protect our citizens.

  2. Well said Diane, yes, we need to close our borders. But those borders have remained open by a president who has been appointed by God; right? A god, more like the god of ‘this age’!

Pay taxes? Sure. It is now quite obvious that ‘Obama Care’ which we all know (or should know) was NEVER about ‘health care for all’ in the first place. Really just another income TAX stream to support a corrupt government! No thank you, I’ll pay the penalty!

David Vitter had a moral collapse 15 years ago. (I personally believe he was set up for future blackmail as most in DC are — ‘for such a time as this’!) — I will take a man who cheated on his wife over one who endorses abortion and the democratic agenda ANY DAY! (think about it, Vitter is sort of a homely looking dude and must have been soooo flattered when he was approached……..obvious!! – he could have been president one day, because of his moral collapse, that can never happen! The boy was SET UP!!! — but he can still be my Governor!)

    My 2 cents – have a great day! : )

  3. Praying for our country and those we elected to govern it is the command of God. We do not all agree on how our government rules but we have the freedom to vote for who will be the decision makers. Obama is not who I would have as president but I believe we as a nation have learned so much about what we do not want. Lies and deceit in any form comes with the political agenda. We as Christians need to delve deeply into the backgrounds of those running for office to be able to discern what the future decisions would look like from an individual. I would suggest that we take a hard look at Ben Carson. He may not apple all to all but I would encourage that you look at the history of his decision making and see Ehom he gives credit for all of his successes We are commanded to be responsible and pray for our leaders. I pray all of us will do our homework and vote responsibly. Sometimes the choices all look bad but we must choose the best of the choices we have.

  4. Jihad is here–just like France they are waiting until the opportune time to hit and we will be hit. I fear a nationwide electrical grid blackout which would bring America to it’s knee’s. No resupply of food, medicine, fuel or anything we use daily and count on. God did not put us here to rely on Him for everything. He gave us common sense so we could prepare for hard times when we saw them coming. Like Waylon I worry about the younger generation as they have never faced a time such as we have coming.
Today you need to build up a food supply, add a hand pump if you have a water well, and as much as some do not like to recognize it, it is time for all of us to be armed and ready to protect ourselves because in the event of an electrical grid blackout there will be no police to call or rely on. If you do not prepare now it will be too late after it happens. God be with us all.

  5. Thank you Waylon. Prayer will be on-going for:
… “those in authority in America to acknowledge God, to recognize his authority,”
… believers in Jesus Christ who will ask God for wisdom and understanding in leading our country to be voted into office,
… all of us who call on The Name of Jesus Christ to
    2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
… all of us to put on God’s Armor daily, Ephesians 6:10-20.

  6. I’m praying and I’m also praying for Godly leaders like you said. I hope and pray also that people get out and vote. Our forefathers fought for our freedom and framed the constitution based on moral values found in the Bible. We should exercise that right before we lose it altogether.

  7. I read all your input on the subject. I am fearful of the weakness and greed in our politics today in our state and in our country. Like some of you I do not like the choices we are faced with in local, state and national elections. I can and will continue to pray about our situation. We need to do our homework and encourage everyone we know to register and VOTE! Thanks Waylon.
