Gratitude is a Muscle You Strengthen

“A person who celebrates only the big stuff will have only fleeting moments of happiness, at best. On the other hand, a person who feels grateful for the small things in life will be happy a majority of the time. Virtually everywhere they look, they will find cause for celebration”–Ron Nelson.

“We do hereby Dedicate this Land, and ourselves, to reach the People within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up Godly generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth. May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this earth remains, and may this Land, along with England, be Evangelist to the World”–Mayflower Compact, Jamestown.

“My God, I have never thanked thee for my thorn. I have thanked thee a thousand times for my roses, but never once for my thorn. Teach me the glory of my cross, teach me the value of my thorn. Show me that I have climbed to thee by the path of my pain. Show me that my tears have made my rainbows”–George Matheson, Scottish pastor who became blind at age 20.

“At a time when many people have seen better times, it’s easy to look at a day called ‘Thanksgiving’ and scoff. . . .You can’t have thanks; you can only give it. The more you practice feeling grateful, the more grateful you become. Gratitude is a muscle you strengthen through daily use–an exercise, not an emotion. It’s not something you feel, but something you do”–Jeff Goins.
