Let’s start the new year off right!

I like new beginnings; I think most people do. There is something about starting over and beginning again that appeals to us.

I always like the beginning of a new year for that reason.

So, what is it that we should seek new for this year?

Let me give you a simple, spiritual way to began again. I have found if you use this simple plan you will grow in your likeness of God and you will carry out of what matters to Him.

First, seek God with all your heart.

Make your prayer time and your devotional and Bible reading time a time to get to know God.

“Draw near to God and he will draw near to you” (James 4:7).

While this simple plan sounds too simple, it’s not. It is what God has told us to do.

Nothing in the new year will be more important then your drawing near to God and seeking Him with all your heart.

Second, seek what matters to God.

My new sermon series on holiness will center around “doing everything God wants and nothing that he doesn’t.”

Learning what matters to God will put a desire in your heart to please Him.

The Psalmist told us to”Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

God wants us to want what He wants.

As we delight in Him we will become more like Him, and we will want to do more of what He wants.

Third, execute your plan to do what matters to God.

Take one area at a time and fervently pray that God would help you to become what He wants in your life.

Do these things and 2016 will be a wonderful year.
