The Purpose and Values of Life

“We must continually remind ourselves of the purpose of life. We are not destined to happiness, not to health, but to holiness . . . . At all costs, a person must have a right relationship with God . . . . God has only one intended destiny for mankind–holiness. His only goal is to produce saints”–Oswald Chambers.

“God created us for this: to live our lives in a way that makes him look more like the greatness and the beauty and the infinite worth that he really is. This what it means to be created in the image of God”–John Piper.

“Atonement through the Cross of Christ means that God can put me back into perfect oneness with himself through the death of Jesus Christ, without a trace of anything coming between us any longer”–Oswald Chambers.

“God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it”–1 Corinthians 10:13.

“Life is built on character, and character is built on decisions. But decisions are based on values, and values must be accepted by faith. Moses made his life-changing decisions on the basis of values that other people thought were foolish (Heb. 11:24-29), but God honored his faith”–Warren Wiersbe.

“The Christian does not think that God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because he loves us”–C.S. Lewis.

“Faith is to believe what we do not see, and the reward is to see what we believe”–Augustine.

“Grace teaches us that God loves because of who God is, not because of who we are”–Philip Yancey
