Four Truths Every Christian Should Know

Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth contains one of my favorite passages of Scripture. He wrote to the Corinthian’s about “resurrection life.” 2 Corinthians 4:13–5:22 contains life-giving truths. What is it that every Christian should know?
First, every Christian should know the source of our hope.
We are justified by faith in Christ.
Because one man (Christ) died for us, we also died to sin and the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:14–15). We died with him and will also be raised with him.”God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
This truth supports all other truths.
Second, every Christian should know our eternal security.
Because of the finished work of Christ on the cross, we have hope for all eternity. Paul describes our future with God. We will leave this earthly tent, and we will receive the house which God has prepared for us.
Third, every Christian should know that we will be judged. This is not the judgment determining whether we will be in heaven or hell; it is the judgment for our works in the body.
We must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ “so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). As Jesus said, we will be judged for every idle word.
Fourth, every Christian should know his status in Christ. Those who trust in him have been made new by the indwelling Holy Spirit. We are new people, and we should live according to the position we have in Christ Jesus the Lord.
These truths give us confidence for this life and for the life to come. Our hope is in Christ alone.
