Love, Marriage, and Faith

“Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. ‘At last!’ the man exclaimed. ‘This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called “woman,” because she was taken from “man.” ‘ This is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh”–Genesis 2:22-24.

“The woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not made out of his head to rule over him, not out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved”–Matthew Henry.

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you”–A.A. Milne.

“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt”–Charles M Schulz.

“God often uses marriage as a metaphor for his relationship with his people (see the Book of Hosea; Ephesians 5:32; Revelation 19:7-10). Here’s one reason: a wedding does not make a marriage. Just because a couple pledged their lives to each other does not guarantee they will keep that pledge. Yesterday’s promise must be today’s commitment. So it is with our faith. Far too many Christians think they must be right with God because they were baptized as infants or children, or because they had an encounter with God at youth camp, or because they went to church on Sunday. That’s all good, but past obedience is no substitute for present obedience. God wants a present-tense communion with his children. He reveals his perfect will moment by moment, and calls us to the same kind of worship and obedience”–Jim Denison.

Waylon, I just want to advise you that the ski Trip to Copper Mountain was fantastic. Cindy, I and our kids had a great time. Very special kudos to Bill Boren who worked tirelessly to coordinate everything (quite a task) and his testimonials of faith inspired us all. Bill is quite a man and a darn good skier! I hope we can all attend next year.
