Why the Church Grows

“When he landed in 1848, there were no Christians here; when he left in 1872, there were no heathen”–Memorial to John Geddie, the “Father” of Presbyterian Missions in the South Seas.

“Our culture is changing, but our mission is not. The mission is not to look like the culture, but to look like Christ while we live and move in the culture (1 John 2:6). This is not a culture war; this is a spiritual war in the culture (Ephesians 6:12). In this war, we are not trying to win the point, but the person. And the goal is less about trying to win, and more about being faithful (Hebrews 11:6)–Nick Pitts.

“Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you For the Lord is a God justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him–Isaiah 30:18.

“Do you long for Him? I’ve got great news! In an even greater way–greater than you could ever imagine–He longs to be gracious to you. He is offering you all the things you hunger for. The table is loaded, and He is smiling, waiting for you to sit down and enjoy the feast He prepared with you in mind. Have a seat–grace is being served”–Chuck Swindoll.

“But take heart, God does his best work in the dark (see creation and the cross). We don’t have to save the world because that has already been done. But we should want to be interesting in the world, so that others may take note that we have been with the One who is worthy of all our interest and praise (Acts 4:13)–Nick Pitts.
