The Best of Times and the Worst of Times

I don’t think I remember anything about Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities beyond the opening line: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”

Many times in life seem that way.

This week certainly seemed that way. It has been the worst of times as we have seen the human tragedy of people who have lost possessions, automobiles, and houses in the flood. One of the calls to our church told of an elderly woman all alone sitting in the midst of soggy belongings wondering what to do.

That is certainly the worst of times.

But the opportunity to help people is the best of times. Our church responded quickly and beautifully to help this woman and many others as well. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief has been the cavalry that has come to the rescue of many, many people in our area.

In America, it seems to be the worst of times. The presidential primaries have highlighted the angst we have experienced in our beloved country in the last few years.

But it also seems to be the best of times in America. New churches are being planted all across America. Millenials are undertaking the task of making Christ known to their generation.

I hope and pray you will give to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering to help plant churches across North America.

Today’s guest, Ken Ham, is helping lead the charge to make this the best of times. This summer he will open an exact sized replica of Noah’s Ark. Just seeing this amazing achievement is going to help many people envision the possibility of the Ark and open the door to hearing the Gospel.

We are thankful to have Ken and his team with us for the events this weekend. He will also speak Sunday night and Monday night at 6:30 pm and Monday morning for students.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to make the best of the times we face.
