Where Do I Go from Here?

One of the questions we ask ourselves about many things is, “Where do I go from here?”

It is a serious question. How do I get to where I really need to be?

One of the places that every Christian needs to get is to take on the mind of Christ and to live according to the example of Jesus.

That’s the way it was with the people of the church at Philippi. I’ve often said the church at Philippi was Paul’s favorite church. While I can’t be sure that was the case, it’s obvious that the letter to the church at Philippi is “an Epistle of joy .”

There’s something else about the church at Philippi. It had real problems with selfishness, ego, and bruised feelings.

Two women in the church had such difficulty in getting along that Paul called them out in the letter he wrote to the church (Philippians 4:2).

Paul also gave the church a prescription for overcoming the issues which were hurting the church.

This is what he told them to do.

First, work at being like minded and unified in ministry. While that may seem like such a simple thing, many people never think that working together and doing our part will really make a difference.

Second, take on the mind of Christ. Specifically, he said it this way: “Let this mind be in you which also was in Christ Jesus.” He then reminded them that Christ was a man of humility, commitment, and service.

Jesus did not come to be served but to serve. Though he was God, He humbled himself and became human flesh. He humbled himself even unto death – – death on the cross.

Third, Paul encouraged the church at Philippi to let Christ be their example. What He did they should do. How He lived they should live.

We must do the same.

This is the prescription of how churches work together and make a difference in their world.
