Why Church Matters

“When a church goes into a community, the entire quality of life in the area goes up”–Thom Rainer.

“The person who loves their dream of community will destroy their community, but the person who loves those around them will create community”–Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

“And I also say unto you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and forces of Hades will not overpower it”–Matthew 16:18.

“I’ve often said, ‘When a man has enough of Jesus to get him to Heaven, he has enough to get him to church.’ How is it possible to love the Bridegroom and have no affection for the Bride?  It is the natural tendency of the Child of God to be involved with the Body of Christ. When you carefully read the new Testament, you will discover that knowing Jesus and being a part of the church was inseparable”–Ron Herrod.

“Those who neglect or despise the church want to be wiser than Christ. Woe to their pride”–John Calvin.

“The deserter of the church cannot be in Christ since he is not among Christ’s members”–Augustine.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching”–Hebrews 10:24-25.

  1. Waylon,
I’m currently reading a good book on Dietrich Bonhoeffer; what an interesting and enlightened man. If you haven’t read, I recommend.

    Thank you,
    Mike

  2. Through Peter as leader of the church in Jesus’ earthly absence, the church “binds” and “loose[ns]” us. Matt 16:19
