Seeing Your Children Do Well

I enjoy talking with people about their children and grandchildren. It’s a good thing that I do, because I hear a lot about children – – and especially grandchildren.

What I often say to parents and grandparents is this: “There’s not many things more wonderful in life than seeing your children and grandchildren do well.”

Can’t you see that our heavenly father feels the same way about us?

What can we do to help our children do well? What can we do as a church so that the children of the church do well?

Here are some things I would encourage you to do to help your children and grandchildren do well.

First, get your children fully integrated into the life of the church. This requires commitment on your part, not so much on their part. You as the parent are the key.

Your children need consistency in church. If your children should ask, why do we go to church or why do we have to go to church, your response should be: “This is who we are.” It’s very important for your children to know what really matters to you.

You may need to change your consistency so that their consistency see changes as well.

Second, your children can’t do everything – – not even at church. Therefore, pick two or three areas they can be a part of.

Here are some suggestions: Upward Recreation, Bible Drill, Skills & Thrills, other Wednesday night or Sunday night activities, or various choirs.

Some early indications are that the newest generation – – those born since 2001 are very religious and very church oriented.

Please take advantage of these great opportunities. They will attend and get involved if you are.

Third, let your child be part of one of the weeks of summer camp or missions activities. That week usually helps children get really connected.

Finally, VBS and VBX begins June 6. This is a tremendous way for you to get your kids connected to the church.

Remember, this matters for eternity. Take full advantage.
