What Should We Do Until Christ Returns?

Recently I read a magazine that asked the question, “Is the Antichrist already among us?”

I read most of the magazine and never did get the answer to the question. It seems to have been a sensational headline to get readers. It certainly did the trick for me.

Many people are asking, “Is the Lord going to return soon?” Maybe we should ask another question. Maybe we should ask what we are to do until He returns.

I say that because that’s what Jesus spoke about. When He talked with his disciples, Jesus talked about what they should be doing until He did return.

What should we be doing until Christ returns?

By the way, the proper way to talk about Jesus coming is to use the word “return.” The phrase “second coming” is not found in Scripture, neither is the term “rapture.” Both terms are appropriate to use, but the language Jesus used centered around His “return.”

These are some of the things He said we should be doing until He returns.

First, we should be living in readiness. Jesus told His disciples to “Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning” (Luke 12:35).These were pictures of readiness in ancient times.

Second, we should be fully alert to our world and to signs of our Lord’s return.  While some people obviously go overboard looking for the return of Jesus, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be aware of the signs of the times. Jesus also told his disciples, “Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes” (Luke 12:37).

Third, we should be working as we anticipate the day of Christ’s return (Luke 12:43). God has a work and ministry for His people to perform. He wants us to give our best for His glory.

Finally, we must be seeking to please God in all we do. We must long for His return and seek to help others know Christ and the hope that comes only through Him.

  1. Our Bible Study class is studying Revelation and we have come to a conclusion concerning the Antichrist. First, the Bible tells us that nobody but God knows when Christ will return, Therefore, because Satan does not know, he always has an antichrist (little a) ready to take over once the return occurs. We have been in the book about 9 months and the reason we are going into depth is that we want to be able to warn others about what is coming because we do not want anybody to have to go through the tribulation.

  2. As followers and disciples of Christ we should be reminded of Jesus’ Parable of the Minas. Lk. 19:11-27. And also follow Jesus’ teachings during the Upper Room Discourse. Jn 13.

  3. Great message “What Should We Do Until Christ Returns?”!
At our Mid-week Bible study (last night) I used Titus 2:13 as we discussed what the “”return” of Christ means to believers in relation to our readiness when Jesus returns. “Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13 NKJV). With your permission I will share what you wrote on the blog 5/26/16 as it fits perfectly with what we were saying about living for Jesus until He returns. Enjoy your insights and messages on your blog.
