Should We Be Discouraged or Encouraged?

“When it seems that good is outnumbered by evil, it’s not. When it seems that God is absent, he isn’t. You may not see him in the room, but that fact makes him no less present. When Syrian armies surrounded Elisha, the prophet assured his servant, ‘Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them’ (2 Kings 6:16). Then he asked God to open the young man’s eyes, and ‘he saw and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha’ “–Jim Denison.

“No Christian can be a pessimist, for Christianity is a system of radical optimism”–William Ralph Inge.

“As the rain and the snow do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth; it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it”–Isaiah 55:10-11.

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God”–Psalm 20:7.

“According to an extensive survey by the Pew Research Center, the share of adults in the US who identify as Christians fell from 78 to 71 percent between 2007 and 2014. . . . But we have great hope that God is still–as always–at work in the church, through the church, and for the church so the church can be all it was meant to be in the world”–Fuller Youth Institute.

  1. Excellent! And we should consider that fusion produces more than mere fission. In other words, when the pressure and force grow so great that it is unbearable, God might well release his promises with their fulfillments concerning the whole earth being converted. Radical Optimism, Indeed!
