In May, I completed five years of writing a blog.
Like most things, my blogging began simply. I’ve always written a weekly article for the church newsletter. I call it lagniappe (LAN-YAP) because I live in South Louisiana. Lagniappe is a word that means “a little something extra.” It’s much like a “baker’s dozen.” My article was an attempt to give the people in my church just a little something extra.
My Lagniappe was also a way to help my people know what’s on my mind and where God is leading. Over the years, I have seen this practice pay large spiritual benefits.
That’s also why I blog.
My blog also becomes a way of doing something with my “stray extra thoughts.”
In reality, that is basically what I do. I simply take what I’m thinking about and expounding on it.
Regular readers know that I have been thinking a lot about the state of the church in America and in the world. That’s why I have written lately about whether we should be encouraged or discouraged and why I am feeling good right now. Yesterday I wrote about three reasons why I am encouraged about the future.
Not only do I want to put my “stray thoughts” in print, but also to get you to thinking about these things as well.
We all know we have much to worry about–think about what has happened in the Orlando area this week. They have suffered through the murder of a prominent entertainer, the worst mass shooting in American history, and death of a two year old to an alligator at Disney World.
D0 we have anything to take joy in? The sorrow of this week leads me to remember that I have a Father who will never leave me nor forsake me. In the midst of the world’s darkness, Jesus is the light of the world.
I started blogging because of the death of Osama Bin Laden; I keep blogging because of the horror and sorrow of sin and rebellion.
Though in the world we have tribulation, I blog to remind us that Christ has overcome the world. The last words of the Bible remind us that Jesus is returning soon to take His people home.
“Even so, come Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:2o).
