The Dow’s Record High

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the most widely identified financial barometer in the world, closed yesterday at a record high. It was good news for anyone who has a 401 – K or any other kind of financial investment.

I watched a program that had to do with finances yesterday. They began the program with the Hallelujah Chorus (as in Handel’s Messiah).

It seems so strange and out of place. I couldn’t help but wonder did these folks know what the word “Hallelujah” means? Do they understand that it is found throughout Scripture, particularly in the Psalms and in Revelation? Did they know the word contains the divine personal name the Jews used for God? The “jah” on the end is the English form of the shortened divine name Yahweh.

In another sense, it was completely in place. Shouldn’t our lives be characterized by praising the Lord God of heaven and earth?

Shouldn’t everything in life be subject to praising God for? In fact, that’s exactly what He tells us to do: “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the father through him” (Colossians 3:17).

The last verse of the Psalms ends with God telling us that everything that has breath should praise the Lord (Psalm 150:6). James tells us that God the Father is the giver of every good gift.

For you and me, people who know and love the Lord Jesus Christ, our lives should constantly reflect the glory and majesty of God. We should be playing and singing the hallelujah chorus again and again.

Our lives should be lives filled with thanksgiving and praise.

Today, let us look for every opportunity to sing the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
