The Problem of Money

“[Money is] an article which may be used as a universal passport to everywhere except heaven, and as a universal provider for everything except happiness”–The Wall Street Journal.

“Money is also a provoker of covetousness and competition, a wonderful servant but a terrible master. The love of money is still ‘a root of all kinds of evil’ and has helped fill our world with corruption and lust. . . . In his portrait of the prodigal and the elder brother, Jesus described two opposite philosophies of life. Prior to his repentance, the prodigal wasted his life but his elder brother only spent his life as a faithful drudge. Both attitudes are wrong, for the Christian approach of life is that we should invest our lives for the good of others and the glory of God”–Warren Wiersbe.

“Lord, the only thing we know about sacrifice is how to spell the word”–Jacob Stam.

“Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions’ “–Luke 12:15.

“Money cannot buy peace of mind. It cannot heal ruptured relationships, or build meaning into a life that has none”–Richard M. DeVos.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money”–Matthew 6:24.

“Don’t let making a living prevent you from making a life”–John Wooden.
