Life is filled with difficult situations. I don’t have to tell you that. Most people only have to go a little way into adulthood to realize how difficult life can be.

How can you make the most of difficult situations?

First, make sure you are doing what you should do. It’s easy to blame the problems on the other person, but often we can’t see that we also are to blame.

The apostle Paul told us “as much as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people” (Romans 12:18).

Those words imply two things: (1) Handling difficult situations depends on you. There are things you can do to make the difficulty better. Therefore, make it better. Do what you have to do to help live peaceably with all people.

This will mean “doing unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Luke 6:31). It will also mean loving your neighbor as you love yourself.

(2) This verse also shows that everything does not depend on you. Maturity will help you understand “I’ve done all that I can do to resolve this difficult situation.” God does not want you to beat yourself up over things that are not in your hands.

Second, learn to have difficult conversations. You can’t resolve difficult issues unless people talk openly and honestly. Those conversations have to be kind, caring, and with a mind toward reconciliation. Do those things and you have a great opportunity to deal with the difficult situation.

Many Christians find it difficult to confront the issues. Ask God to help you to overcome your fear about resolving the issues.

Third, pray for God to open doors and overcome hesitation and obstinance in the other person. Ask God to go before you and provide the way.

These simple steps will help you deal with the difficult situations of life.
