Is Your Church Trusting the Right Person?

Have you considered who you trust? What about your church?

Are you trusting what God can do or are you trusting what you can do?

Paul’s letter to the Ephesians contains at least two verses that challenge us about who we are and who we trust.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!” (Ephesians 3:20–21).

I see two astounding statements in this doxology of the apostle Paul.

First, there is the statement that our God is able to do “immeasurably more” than we could ever ask or imagine. Other translations translate this phrase “immeasurably more” as “exceedingly abundantly,” or “far more abundantly.”

Paul is trying to show us that God can change peoples’ lives and that God can work great works among us.

God can do things beyond what we can imagine. His Power within us is greater then we can conceive. Since His power is beyond human comprehension, we actually don’t know how to ask these things.

We get a picture in the words of Jesus: “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13).

Have you asked God lately to move mountains? Are you praying for revival and for a change in America and the world? Are you asking God to do the things you know need to be done? Are you afraid to ask because you fear that He can’t do them?

We need to see how big God is. We need to understand the words of the Psalmist: “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable” (Psalm 145:3).

Second, we expect too little of God because we forget the power within us. The power that has been given to the church is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead.

We can do immeasurably more than we ever ask or imagine because of the power of God’s Spirit within us – – the same power that raised our Lord from the dead.

It’s time for the church to live up to its potential – – not our potential but the power of God at work within us.

  1. Amen Brother! At Landmark Church we are praying and preparing for a Tent Revival Oct. 13-16. We were privileged to baptize 4 new believers last Sunday. Please pray with us for the revival. Bro. Clark Stewart is the preacher for the revival. We are expecting God to move.
