Why Good Things Happen

When I see something good happening at First Baptist Church, I often think of those who have gone before us, specifically the group who founded the church and the group who set it on its present course.

Can you imagine the city of Covington without a Baptist church? That city certainly existed.

From 1813, when Covington was founded until 1904 when a small group of people established First Baptist Church, there was no Baptist church in Covington.

I’ve often thought about that group of people. What did they hope to accomplish? What goals did they have?

What about those in 1948 who finally built the first sanctuary for FBC? What did they foresee?

I think we can safely say that neither group foresaw what FBC is today. Not only did they not see it but they also probably didn’t dream it.

While we can’t imagine they could dream of our day, we can imagine that they wanted to move forward with the church and with the Gospel. We can’t imagine the future either, but we can be a people who move forward with the good news of Jesus.

Our new sermon series will begin next weekend. The title is “Moving Forward.” The series will fit with our new capital campaign. “Forward” is all about the future, both the future we think we can see and the future that we can’t see.

As we Move Forward, we will look at the future and what God wants to do. We will also look at what He wants to do in our lives and how He wants us to serve.

I hope you will join with me in looking for God’s leadership as we move Forward.
