It’s Not Easy Being Green

It’s not easy being green.

Kermit the Frog on the kid’s show Sesame Street used to sing a song saying “it’s not easy being green.”

You may remember a golfer named Hubert Green. He was a very good golfer – – still is I think. I got to know of Hubert through his sister who taught history at Samford University.

Unfortunately, he missed winning a Masters’ green jacket on the 18th green by missing a short putt. At the conclusion of the tournament, reporters asked Hubert what happened and how he felt. He simply replied, “it’s not easy being Green.”

When I run up against something hard, I often hear myself saying, “it’s not easy being green”.

Life is filled with things which aren’t easy.

What do we do when we inevitably find that life is hard?

First, we cover ourselves and the people around us in prayer. We seek God’s guidance and wisdom. We pray Scripture, remembering God loves and cares for us.

Second, we do as the Scripture says – – we live strongly and courageously. “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7–9).

Third, we persevere. Again and again, God tells us in Scripture to persevere, not to quit, not to give up.

Fourth, we look for Godlike people to bear us up under pressure and stand in strength.

This is especially the work and function of the church. We are to bear one another’s burdens and thus fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2).

Life is hard, and it’s not easy being green. But when we take on the resources God has provided for us, we can stand even in the most difficult of times.

I have the privilege of writing a devotional every day and sending it out to people across the country. If you would like to be a part of that list, you can sign up at WaylonBailey.com or in the box below.
