Christmas: What It Means

I love Christmas. I always have.

That’s the judgment of most everyone I know. We all love “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.”

We certainly need to know what happened at the first Christmas, but we also need to know what it means. The gospels meet both of these needs. Matthew and Mark tell us what happened, and Mark and John give the eternal significance of what Christ did for us.

During the next five weeks (including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), I will be preaching on “Christmas: What It Means” from John 1.

This study will look at the deep, theological meaning of Christ coming into the world. We will see that Christmas is about much more than a baby in a manger. It is about God becoming human flesh and giving Himself for the needs of a fallen world.

I hope you will join us for this look at what God did for us in Christ.

These are my plans for preaching from John 1:

December 3-4 Christ is the Creator John 1:1-5

December 10-11 Christ is the Light of the World John 1:6-13

December 17-18 Christ is God in the Flesh John 1:14-18

December 24 Christ is the Fulfillment of Prophecy John 1:19-28

December 25 Christ is the Sacrifice for Sin John 1:29-34

January 1 Christ is the Son of God John 1:35-52

I look forward to seeing you as we look at what Christmas means to us today.
