“In a short while the whole of the country was aflame,” he said. “Every church was stirred to its depths. Strong men were in tears of penitence, and women moved with a new fervor. People were overpowered by the Spirit as on the day of Pentecost, and were counted as drunken men. In the services they were praying, singing and testifying. It was a church revival, turning Christians everywhere into witnesses: ‘Certainly we cannot but speak the things we have seen and heard’”–Rees Howells on the revival in Wales (1904).

” I remember hearing a person say once that even if Christ had not been raised from the dead, he thought he would continue to live the Christian life because ‘it would still be the best way to live.’ But I wonder if he didn’t say that because he could not conceive what it would be like to live in a world without the hope of the resurrection. The Christian life is only the best life if it is based upon truth, and Paul is right in stating, ‘If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable‘ (v. 19)–Kenneth L. “O death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord”–1 Corinthians 15:55-58.
