It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Christmas is a wonderful time. I’ve often felt that if you didn’t have it we would almost have to make it up.

As a pastor and and observer of life, I am painfully aware that this is also a difficult time of the year. In my own church I am praying for a number of families who have tragically lost loved ones.

Part of the reason why these families are hurting so much is because of the wonder and the joy of Christmas.

What makes this the most wonderful time of the year?

First, Christmas is so good because it is a family time – – both our small personal families and also the family of God.

One way or the other I am seeing almost all of my family this Christmas even though they are scattered throughout the Southeast. That in itself makes Christmas a wonderful time of the year.

Second, Christmas is so wonderful because of what it makes us do and how it makes us feel.

Don’t we all need a time when we give gifts to other people and express our best wishes toward them?

Over the last two weeks I’ve been thinking about how people share gifts and how they express appreciation. That is a wonderful experience.

Third, I love Christmas because of the excitement associated with it. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are two of only a few days a year when my dad didn’t work. We could always count on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as a day of anticipation and excitement. We knew what we were going to do on those days, and we did the same thing every year.

Finally, it’s the most wonderful time of the year because we look again to the blessing of God in our lives. We rejoice with the Angels at the coming of the Son of God into the world.

Because of Him, no matter what has happened we can have hope and joy because of the Lord Jesus Christ.

May God bless this most wonderful time of the year.
