Last week I reported to our deacons about open pastoral staff positions. You are aware that we are currently looking for a Children’s Pastor as well as a worship leader or Minister of Music.
I told the deacons how I have often been asked if we are close. Each time I respond by saying, “We are not close, but we could be.”
I explained what I meant. We are looking diligently for the right person–God’s person–to lead us in these areas. We have been through many resumes and interviewed a number of people. While we are not “close,” that could change at any time.
I am happy to report to you that we are now close in our search for our Children’s Pastor. Next Sunday we will have as our guests Maggie Fredericks, her husband Carl, and her five adult children (and one spouse) to worship with us and to meet the church. During the day, you will have the opportunity to greet our guests and to welcome them to FBC.
Maggie and Carl were right close by. They live in Slidell and are extremely active in FBC Slidell. Carl serves as a deacon and Maggie served for a number of years as FBC Slidell’s Children’s Minister. She was also director of the Christian school associated with the church.
Maggie is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Children’s Ministry at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She also has a Master’s degree from the seminary.
We have been very impressed with Maggie’s experience, education, leadership and relationship skills, and her commitment to Christ and His church. We are looking forward to introducing her and her family next week.
The pastoral team and the Personnel Ministry Team will recommend that she be called as Children’s Minister at our Congregational Meeting, Wednesday, February 8. If elected by the church, she will begin serving with us shortly thereafter.
We will also hear a recommendation from the Strategy Planning Team about how we will use the funds from the Forward! Campaign for our new building expansion.

Pastor Bailey, I can’t imagine a better fit in pastoral ministry, especially as Children’s Pastor, than that of Maggie Fredericks. Her passion for the Lord has already and will continue to shape children’s hearts towards Christ for generations.
