Is There A War on Women?

Some people say there is a war on women.

I agree, but not with the way this war is commonly described. I think it’s a different war completely, one that strikes at the very heart of what it is to be a woman.

You may be saying, “But you’re not a woman and you don’t have any right to talk about this subject.” You are  obviously correct about my gender, but I have reason to write about this subject.

I have a wife, two daughters, and a granddaughter, and I adore them with all my heart. I also have a right to speak from the Word of God and by the Spirit of God.

This war on women is the one that is devaluing women. This war is raging in our contemporary culture as women are viewed as property to be used instead of a gift of God to be valued.

By the way, our biological sex is determined at the very earliest time. It is fixed by our Creator and should be celebrated for its uniqueness. This is especially true of women.

When I do premarital counseling for couples, one of my major emphases is encouraging them to accept and celebrate the difference in their spouse. I try to remind the man that God made his wife to be different.

It is God’s wonderful plan.

This war on women is undermining what it means to be a woman and destroying the joy, peace, and uniqueness that God intended for every woman to feel.

I listened recently to an expert (a woman) who said that depression, fear, and unhappiness are at the highest levels ever for women.

How do we fight in this war?

First, we celebrate God’s creation and God’s plan. We describe women as they are – – unique and beautiful creations of the Creator of the universe–created by the design and plan of the Heavenly Father.

Second, we pray for our wives, daughters, and granddaughters. We lift them up to the Father. We ask God’s blessings for them.

Third, we encourage them to be strong and courageous and to be all that God intended them to be. And, we do all we can to stand beside them and to care for them deeply as we all struggle through a world of sin and rebellion.

Finally, we look to Jesus who from the cross cried out to his Father a simple, child-like prayer saying, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46).

Those words were the very words of every child in Israel as they went to sleep (see Psalm 31:5). What amazing words to be uttered from the cross. It was our Lord’s simple act of trust as He died for us confidently, willingly, and victoriously.

Let us choose to live in that kind of victory and, when our time is over, to die in that same confidence of the victory that is in Christ.

  1. Thank you Waylon.
God made us beautiful, strong, tender, intelligent and persuasive. We have great responsibility in our use of these qualities.
In families where husbands and wives learn to respectfully balance out one another’s weaknesses there is much strength and beauty.
I’m with you … let’s walk along side all families lovingly nurturing and building them up!
