A Question for You to Ask

Both personally and collectively, there is one question we all ought to ask.

That question is: “Why are we doing this?” Personally, the question goes like this: “Why am I doing this?”

Let me give you some ways we need to apply this question. (Today, I want to ask this of you. Next week, I want to ask it of us–the church).

First, we need to apply it personally to our own lives. The question probably should reach to every aspect of our lives – – how we work, do family, and how we spend recreational time.

Jesus probably talked more about attitudes and motivations then any other subjects. He wanted us to ask: “Why am I doing this?”

When we come to the work of God’s kingdom we face two opposing issues. One is that we must be careful to make sure we are not working to be seen. The second is that we don’t work at all.

It’s imperative that we do the work of the kingdom, and we do it for the right reasons.

I want to encourage you to look deeply at your life and ask, “Do I have the right motivation and the right attitude for what I am doing?”

Then, I would encourage you to spend time with God asking Him to help you have the right motivation and the right attitude.

You may smile at what I write next.

As the pastor of the church, I hope you don’t quit doing the right things you are doing. What I do hope is that you spend time with God letting Him look deeply within you and showing you His plans and His goals for your life.

I pray you will seek to do right things for right motivation. Jesus talked about the heart. Whatever is deep inside us will eventually come out.

Let’s seek to have pure hearts and clean hands as we live and serve our Lord.
