Good Christians Make Good Citizens

“Good Christians make good citizens”–Justin Martyr, Christian Apologist who died A.D. 165 in Rome.

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way”–1 Timothy 2:1-2.

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. . . . For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. . . . Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due”–Romans 13:1-7.

“So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander”–1 Peter 2:1.

“But even if you do suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence; and keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame”–1 Peter 3:14-16.
