We’re “Punching Through” Next Week

I don’t have to tell you that our building expansion if moving along nicely. All you have to do is look.

You can really understand the progress when you learn that the work crews will be “punching through” next week. That means that the crews will be removing brick from the area that the present children’s corridor intersects with the new hallway leading to the Preschool/Children’s Building and the Commons Area. The brick removal will be this week. The actual deconstruction and construction will happen the week after Easter. For that reason, we will not have Wednesday activities in the Children’s area the week after Easter.

We have worked with the contractor to give them the time they need to make all three connections with the present building and to renovate the present facility to get it ready for the opening of the building.

We now expect to receive the Preschool/Children’s Building during the summer. We expect to begin using it in September. At the same time, our working plan is to begin our new schedule at the same time. This will demand a great deal of prayer, planning, coordination, and flexibility! This will mean two worship services at 9:30 and 11:00 and Bible Study groups in the hour adjoining the time you worship. For example, if you worship at 9:30, you can attend Bible Study at 8:15 (for some groups) or at 11:00. Those who attend at 11:00 will have Bible Fellowship Groups at 9:30.

We plan to move into the new Worship Center and occupy the entire building sometime in January of 2018. Over the next few weeks I will be preaching about “The Future of Worship” in hopes of preparing us for our future.

These are exciting times for our church. Let’s not forget that we are a church of people and not a church of buildings. The buildings function to accommodate the people and our worship.

That reminds us that we will have a lot of guests with us next week for Easter

Let’s be attentive to their needs. We need to make sure they get good parking and have the best seats in the house. They need smiles and kind greetings. If someone is new or not a regular church attender, any worship service can be intimidating. Let’s do our best to take the intimidation factor away.

It’s best to follow the counsel of Jesus: treat others as you want to be treated.
