On Patriotism, Generosity, and Kindness

“This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in–Theodore Roosevelt.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt uses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again. It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”–Matthew 5:13-16.

“He loves his country best who strives to make it best”–Robert Ingersoll.

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave”–Elmer Davis.

“So many have paid the ultimate price for our country and its ideals. Others have paid with the loss of loved ones, with life-changing injuries, both physical and mental. They have paid that price so we would all be able to worship as we please, say what we please and live our lives without the fear of a knock on the door in the night. They didn’t pay that price for us to hate those who believe differently, worship differently, talk differently or have different colors of skin”–Phillip Marshall.

“Many who adopted the Declaration of Independence . . . had more worldly substance to lose than they had to gain. But they were convinced that the freedom they sought would be their gift, not only to succeeding generations of Americans but to the world”–Jim Denison.
